Bathrooms

The theme of these bathrooms are chocolate and white , with a touch of beige. The vanity below has chocolate cultured marble vanity top using a white cultured marble integrated sink to give the illusion of a white china sink. The vanity above still uses a cultured marble material , accentuated in a modern style by using the rectangular sink integrated, and once again using a contrasting colour.

The enclosed shower above uses a similar theme of white and chocolate with white quartz marble thresholds to an exciting end.

The use of chocolate , white and beige is the common theme here to accentuate a small bathroom. The vanity is crema marfil marble with white oval china undermount sink . And the use of gloss mocha coloured floor and wall tile brings brightness to the room. The vanity cabinet is chocolate stain on maple with brushed satin knobs that sits well against the brown floor. Again note the use of a light grout with the floor tile .

Kitchen Designs

This vanilla coloured kitchen is one of my favorites. This galley kitchen's highlight is the back splash! That chocolate coloured back splash tile, that is so long and stacked, packs a punch. The granite , called "Sunset Gold" whilst it is not a true beige, you can get away with it's range of yellows, beige and salmon pink. ( If it were too beige , it would simply disappear as being the same colour as the cabinets and that would be boring! ). The pewter colored knobs add the contrast to the cabinets, and this stainless is also reflected in the appliances and faucet, ensuring the tie in between materials.

The use of chocolate and mid brown is evident in this kitchen. From the living room you can see where the mid brown stain of the maple meets the darker brown laminate floor in order to create interest - keeping it the same can not always work. This same relationship of floor and cabinet colour occurs inside the kitchen as well - with the use of a very dark chocolate ceramic floor with a lighter grout colour. The granite counter is "Baltic Brown" which utilizes the colours found in the floor , and in the cabinets, but also adds green which is a nice contrast against the taupe brown of the kitchen. The splash was chosen to reflect some of the colours found in this granite. In this case, the back splash could have been a better choice, however, budget restricted this choice.

The Black and white kitchen above is so dramatic and modern, the splash, yet to be completed , can be either a white or black tile. In this case it will be a smoked mirror which will ensure this kitchen is dynamite. Note that the charcoal floor tile has light off white grout which accentuates the contrasts even more. The cabinet handles are long and are needed this length when the cabinet door is flat or nearly flat.

The more conservative kitchen here above, uses clear mirror to its advantage, whilst the granite has a very strong relationship with the burgundy colour of the cabinets.

The modern kitchen of white wash maple stays neutral with the use of the beige tumbled marble back splash and giallo ornamental granite. The cabinets when white washed, can sometimes take on a "pink" hue as the red of the north american maple comes out underneath, so be careful when using white washes in cabinets or floors. White wash can be applied to white oak or a whitish maple to alleviate this problem. In this kitchen , semi smoked glass in the upper cabinets has been used successfully to highlight an otherwise very light set of upper cabinets.(Note, the amount of glass is balanced well ). The charcoal grey colour of the glass insert relates well to the stainless appliances, faucet and grey colour within the granite - so it all ties in.

The last pantry photo goes to show how much extra storage you can add to a breakfast room. The pantry, wall to wall, is essential , to create the extra storage that is often missing in a condo. This Breakfast room pictured, looks like the cabinets were customized to the space, yet it was created with modular kitchen cabinets to match the existing kitchen. What a presence it has made !

Model Suite, Brampton

In defining the finishes for the model suites, sharp contrasts seemed to work well. From light kitchen cabinets against a walnut laminate floor, to the chocolate back splash and stainless appliances enhances this loft kitchen. In the bathrooms, textured chocolate tile around the white tub combined with chocolate or espresso cabinet and decorative granite creates a design experience in a smallish bathroom.

The use of white in Kitchen and Bathroom

Within the one loft, a consistency was created going from one room to another with a simple formula of white and teak or beige. Whilst using simple finishes, the repetition of these finishes in slightly different ways, while using an oak to give texture, gave a finish result of sophisticated, modern and light.

More kitchen ideas

What makes this kitchen starts with the floor, a neutral limestone. The maple cabinets are soft against the floor cause of the taupe colour and finished off with a neutral beige "Autumn leaf" granite. The pickling on the cabinets , whilst expensive , does give an added dimension. I found, however, when most discovered the cost of the hand pickling, no one went with this particular design feature. Finally, the backsplash of tumbled marble appealed to EVERYONE!However, beware of the cost and best to have your own guy install. The open shelf above the sink and glass cabinets are a nice touch that too, elevated the kitchen to designer.

Chateau Ridge Pics for inspiration : One bedroom and Den

Even if a space is small, including a one bedroom and den, so much can be done to the shell with rich coloring in the kitchen cabinetry and wood or laminate flooring. Then, the special accents like the angled glass kitchen cabinet with crown molding above, make focal points as you see the kitchen from the Living Room. The bathroom was essentially finished with standard selections , however, the after touches just made that bathroom pop as soon as you entered, with accessories and light fixtures to offset the neutral colours.
Special mention should be made of the open Den: a small area, that with a built in desk/storage of similar colour to the floor, and a mirror focal point, ensures this space is usable and a "star "room to be seen as you come in. You will notice that the footstools are housed here as extra seating for the living room or den.
In the living room, the seating is not overly large and some accents emulate the floor colour, whilst the wall colour tries to tie in everything with interest.

Network Lofts Kitchen Designs

The Kitchen is the essence of a loft or condo, home for that matter. These examples in a Loft setting show how you can go the designer dark route which is extremely popular right now. Or, you can also achieve a dramatic designer event with the softer paint colours also on the cabinets.

Images from Network Lofts , custom bathroom

For something completely different, the client was very keen on having strong colours in the bathroom . Colours that many would not even dream of putting together like : yellow ochre with burgundy red . Once the burgundy maple cabinet was installed with black granite counter and strong onyx marble floor the outcome was stunning!

welcome to colour selection.

Dear readers,
Having spent over 20 years helping hundreds do their colour selection for their home or condo in Ontario, I thought it prudent to set up a blog to share information with regards this process. I am also available to provide assistance in colour selection at the builder's Design Centre or at someone's home for a small fee.
Cheers
